Local festivals in Ribeira
Ribeira's festival calendar extends from Santa Uxía to its coastal parishes. The Festa da Dorna, recognised as a Festival of Tourist Interest in Galicia, turns the streets and harbour of the main town into a showcase for the creativity of the dorneira clubs during the second half of July. Maritime and parish summer celebrations are also especially important in Aguiño, Corrubedo, Palmeira and Castiñeiras.
Usual celebration
The Festa da Dorna is usually held around 24 July at different locations in Ribeira. Its humorous contests feature boats built by the clubs, gravity racers, tavern songs, a romería and other events shaped by Galician wit. On 16 July, the Virxe do Carme links celebrations in the fishing communities with processions, music and harbour life. Santa Uxía, the town's patron saint, is celebrated in September.
Other cultural events
The municipal calendar also includes the patronal festivities of Santa Uxía, the romerías of San Alberto, Os Remedios and Santa Clara, the barnacle festival in Aguiño and the octopus festival in Palmeira.
