Local festivals in Rianxo

The Festas da Guadalupe are usually celebrated over a week, with their principal day on the first Sunday in September after the 8th. The tradition, documented since the mid-nineteenth century and recognised as a Festival of Tourist Interest in Galicia, honours the Moreniña through music, dance, cultural activities and broad community participation.

Maritime procession and A Rianxeira

The image of the Virgin travels across the ria in a maritime procession accompanied by decorated boats. At the close, orchestras and crowds gather before dawn in Praza de Castelao to sing A Rianxeira among thousands of sparklers. Feirón Mariñeiro also recalls Rianxo's seafaring past through crafts, entertainment, historic dress and traditional folklore.

Another maritime celebration: Festa do Mexillón

Other celebrations include Festa do Mexillón, held in early August, which combines tastings and activities around one of the town's emblematic products. The festival's food and cultural association, the rowing club, musical groups, seafarers, traders and residents take part in this event linked to the ria.
