San Jorge, San Fernando Fair and Cáceres holidays
The most iconic festival in Cáceres honours Saint George, whose main date is 23 April. The day before, a great parade of dragons, schools, associations and characters from legend travels through the city. After reaching the Plaza Mayor, the victory of Saint George is represented, the dragon is burned and the children's search for the golden chickens begins. The usual route crosses Ronda de la Pizarra, Avenida de España, San Antón, Gran Vía and Plaza Mayor to San Blas.
Schoolchildren, associations, the Asociación Fraternal San Jorge, cultural companies, municipal services, families and visitors take part in the theatrical performance, the bonfires and the search. The parade includes sections adapted for people with reduced mobility and hearing sensitivity.
The San Fernando Fair is the second major festive cycle and runs for several days in May. The fairground hosts booths and rides; Paseo de Cánovas holds the food and craft fair, while the programme also includes bull events, sport, family activities, senior choirs, music and special transport.
