Local festivals in Malgrat de Mar
The Sant Roc Festa Major is usually celebrated in August and lasts around ten days, ending on the saint's day on 16 August. The Town Council, Festival Committee and local associations organise an opening speech, communal dinners, giant-figure parades, correfocs, sardana dancing, sport, concerts, a religious service and fireworks on Malgrat Centre beach.
Sant Nicolau, the winter main festival
Around 6 December, the Sant Nicolau Festa Major lasts several days and includes the traditional market in the town-centre streets, a gathering of giants, a church service, correfoc, sardanas, children's activities, concerts and improvised-group competitions. Cultural, sporting and residents' associations participate alongside the Town Council at venues across the town.
Other celebrations: Sant Joan i Sant Pau
In late June, Malgrat renews its town vow to Sant Joan, Sant Pau and Sant Roc at the parish church of Sant Nicolau, a custom dating from 1651 after an epidemic. The day continues in Parc de Can Campassol with the Ball de Sant Joan i Sant Pau, or ball de morratxes, performed by traditional dance groups to cobla music.
