Local festivals in Consuegra

The Santísimo Cristo de la Vera Cruz patronal festivities are usually celebrated from 20 to 25 September. The main day, 21 September, combines the historical memory of Alfonso VIII's entry into Consuegra in 1172 with devotion to the patron, whose image is kept in the Vera Cruz chapel. The Virgen de la Blanca, patron of the town, is celebrated on 8 September.

Saffron Rose and Manchego culture

On the last weekend in October, the Fiesta de la Rosa del Azafrán brings together the saffron-flower stripping contest, food, folklore and the Molienda de la Paz at the Sancho windmill. Established in 1963 and recognised as a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest, it turns the family work of growing, picking and stripping saffron into a living display of Manchego identity, involving producers, folk music and dance groups, and residents.

Other celebrations: Consuegra Medieval

In August, Consuegra Medieval re-enacts the battle fought beside the castle in 1097. Since 1997, hundreds of participants have portrayed the Castilian and Almoravid sides, the siege, the souk, the training of knights and the ceremony for those who fell, using the castle, Cerro Calderico and decorated streets as a historical setting.
