Local festivals in Bolaños de Calatrava

The Santísima Virgen del Monte pilgrimage is usually celebrated during the final weekend of April and culminates on Sunday at the patroness's sanctuary. Over several days, pilgrims, the brotherhood, families and local groups gather around the chapel for religious observances, community meals, singing and the traditional sound of pipes and drums.

Cristo de la Columna and the halberds

Around 14 September, the Santísimo Cristo de la Columna fair and festivities occupy several days in Plaza de España, the chapel and the streets. The offering by local groups and associations, open-air mass, Procesión de las Alabardas and auction of the donated produce distinguish the patronal day. The Hermandad de Alabarderos, Town Council, community organisations and residents sustain a tradition recognised for its regional importance.

Other celebrations: Holy Week

Holy Week forms part of the Calatrava Passion Route and brings brotherhoods, bands, worshippers and visitors together for more than a week. The armaos, the local Roman company, take part in processions and dramatic scenes such as the Arrest and the Fall, alongside the parades that cross the town from Palm Sunday onwards.
