Local festivals in Almagro
The Virgen de las Nieves is traditionally celebrated at several points in the year. On the first Sunday in March, the image returns from the Madre de Dios church to her sanctuary about eight kilometres away, accompanied on foot by residents, brotherhoods and the town band. A May romería includes a floral offering, mass, folklore and family meals, while the 5 August feast brings vespers, the salve and communal gatherings around the sanctuary.
San Bartolomé and the August fair
The San Bartolomé fair and festivities are usually held over several days around 24 August. The Town Council, brotherhoods, associations and local groups fill Plaza Mayor, the fairground and other spaces with an opening address, music, dancing, cultural events, sport and community gatherings.
Other events: May songs and neighbourhood festivities
The calendar preserves the May songs, performed by folklore groups for the Virgin and the Cross, and neighbourhood celebrations such as San Jorge around the La Magdalena chapel. Brotherhoods, musicians and traditional groups therefore connect religious festivities with the cultural heritage of this lacemaking town.
