Local festivals in Tobarra

Tobarra's most representative usual celebration is its Holy Week and Tamborada, when processions and groups of drummers fill the streets of the town. San Antón, the patronal festivities in May and San Roque in August also form part of the local calendar.

Usual celebration

The drumming traditionally lasts 104 hours, from the afternoon of Holy Wednesday until the early hours of Easter Sunday. Plaza de España, Calvario, the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and routes through the town host the school Tamborada, processions, the Good Friday Blessing and the joint closing drumbeat. The Town Council, Federation of Brotherhoods, Amigos del Tambor, religious brotherhoods and groups of drummers take part.

Other events and culture

Tobarra celebrates San Antón on 17 January and San Roque around 16 August. Carnival, festivals in the outlying villages, events at the Drum and Holy Week Museum and cultural activities organised by local associations complete the calendar.
