Local festivals in Hellín
Hellín's festival calendar centres on Holy Week and the tamboradas, the Fair and Festivities in honour of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, and San Rafael's day. These are separate celebrations: Holy Week combines worship, processions and collective drumming, whereas the fair spans late September and early October and San Rafael is celebrated on 24 October.
Usual celebration
Holy Week is usually celebrated from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. Its principal tamboradas move through the town centre and around Calvario on days including Holy Wednesday and Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday, with confraternities, brotherhoods and drumming clubs taking part. The Fair usually lasts nine days, from the final Saturday in September to the first Sunday in October, with the Municipal Park and Nuestra Señora del Rosario Fairground as its main venues.
Other events
The Holy Week and Tamboradas Museum, neighbourhood and outlying-village festivities, the offering to the Virgen del Rosario and the market associated with San Rafael extend Hellín's links between festivals, heritage and residents' participation.
