Local festivals in La Cistérniga

The Nuestra Señora del Carmen patronal festivities are usually celebrated for five days around 16 July and end with the Resaka day. Streets and bodegas become gathering places for the peñas, which prepare local lemonade and take part in tug-of-war, the Huevo y el Vino game, competitions, parades and family activities. The Festival Committee brings together the Town Council, peña representatives and municipal staff to organise the celebration.

San Ildefonso

On 23 January, the San Ildefonso brotherhood, documented since 1798, maintains a winter celebration with vespers, mass and a procession. Before the image leaves, members preserve the distinctive custom of washing the saint's face with white wine; during the early hours they make hot chocolate to share. Dances, fireworks and community gatherings accompany the festival.

Other celebrations: brotherhoods, peñas and bodegas

The San Ildefonso and Virgen del Carmen brotherhoods sustain the religious calendar, while the peñas form the main network of participation in the summer festivities. Their bases in the bodegas, shared lemonade and collective games make the celebration welcoming to residents and visitors alike.
