Local festivals in Soria

The San Juan or Madre de Dios festivities are Soria's major popular festival cycle and are organised through twelve historic Cuadrillas, or neighbourhood groups. The calendar continues in autumn with San Saturio, the city's patron saint, whose principal feast day is 2 October.

Usual celebration

San Juan's five main days begin with Miércoles el Pregón, the Wednesday opening speech. Jueves La Saca follows, bringing the young bulls from Monte Valonsadero to the bullring; then come Viernes de Toros, Sábado Agés with the Cuadrillas' auctions, Domingo de Calderas with a parade from Plaza Mayor to Alameda de Cervantes, and Lunes de Bailas, ending beside the River Duero and on the City Hall steps.

Other celebrations

San Saturio extends the festive calendar into October, while Catapán, Lavalenguas and La Compra form the traditional sequence leading up to San Juan's main days.
