Local festivals in Dueñas
Dueñas's main festivities, known as the Fiestas Botijeras, have taken place since 1967 on the weekend after the Assumption. They usually occupy four days, from Friday to Monday, and connect devotion to the Virgin of Onecha with the social life of the peñas.
Usual celebration
The peñas' parade accompanies the Virgin of Onecha to Ojo de la Virgen, where the salve is sung. Encierros through the old town, events at the bullring, street parades, outdoor theatre, open-air dances and peña cellars serving lemonade create the Botijero atmosphere. The Town Council, festival committee, peñas, residents and visitors share the programme.
Other events
The Justas Poéticas Ciudad de Dueñas are held on 15 August. The local calendar also retains the San Isidro pilgrimage to the La Trapa monastery and the feast of the Virgin of the O, patron of the town.
