Festivals in Valverde de la Virgen

Discover the main festivals, celebrations and traditions of Valverde de la Virgen, municipality of León, in Castile and Leon.

Local festivals in Valverde de la Virgen

The municipality's principal shared celebration is San Froilán, a deeply rooted pilgrimage at La Virgen del Camino. It is accompanied by patronal festivities in the eight settlements, supported by their local councils, parishes, associations and residents.

Usual tradition

On 5 October, thousands of pilgrims accompany the image of San Froilán from León to the church at Santuario de la Virgen del Camino. The event lasts from the morning and brings together an open-air Mass and offerings, regional dances, traditional banners, decorated carts and a market selling hazelnuts, morcilla, chorizo, octopus and other produce. Traditional gestures include pulling San Froilán's nose and kissing the Virgin's mantle.

Local public holidays in 2026

The official resolution for the province of León in 2026 contains no entry for Valverde de la Virgen. No local labour holidays are therefore assigned here: the municipal celebration on 5 October described by the Town Council is not presented as a non-working holiday without publication by the competent authority.

Other cultural events

Other events include San Vicente in Valverde de la Virgen, Santo Tirso in Robledo de la Valdoncina, San Blas in Oncina, the Octave of Corpus Christi in Montejos, La Aldea's summer festival, Nuestra Señora del Camino in La Virgen del Camino, San Andrés in Fresno and Santa Lucía in San Miguel del Camino. These celebrations have their own dates and duration and do not replace the labour calendar.
