Local festivals and Leonese culture
The San Juan and San Pedro festivities take place in the second half of June, linking San Juan on 24 June with San Pedro on the 29th. Activities are spread across Plaza de San Marcelo, Plaza Mayor, the Pendones Leoneses esplanade, San Francisco park, the historic centre, neighbourhoods and the fairground.
The night of San Juan retains the bonfire as its central tradition. Other activities include giants and big-head figures, parades, regional dances, concerts, children's activities, traditional games, sporting competitions, the Craft Fair and community meals. Participants include the City Council, clubs, cultural and sporting associations, craftspeople, dance groups, residents and visitors.
En otoño, San Froilán It brings together Leonese traditions other than the summer festivals: banners, decorated cars, dances and the pilgrimage linked to the Virgen del Camino. Its central date is 5 October and it has its own programming, so it is not part of the duration of San Juan and San Pedro.
