Local festivals in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Santa Cruz Carnival is Tenerife's capital's most international celebration. Competitions at the Recinto Ferial and major events along the central avenues and squares unfold over several weeks, before the May festivities mark the anniversary of the city's foundation.

Usual celebration

Carnival usually begins with indoor competitions and galas, then culminates in more than a week of street events. Murgas, comparsas, rondallas and choreography groups take part in the opening parade, daytime carnivals, Coso Apoteósico, Burial of the Sardine and dance nights, organised by the Town Council and Fiestas de Santa Cruz.

Other events in the cultural programme

The May festivities commemorate the city's foundation with decorated crosses, bailes de magos, music and traditional displays. The year-round calendar also includes events at TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, Auditorio de Tenerife, the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts and Centro de Arte La Recova.
