Local festivals in Tuineje

The Fiesta Jurada de San Miguel is usually celebrated over several days around 13 October and recalls Fuerteventura's defence against English privateers in 1740. The vow to the saint, religious observances and historical performance travel through Tarajalejo, Tiscamanita, Gran Tarajal and Tuineje, where a tradition consolidated in the final third of the twentieth century reaches its conclusion.

Candelaria and village festivities

Gran Tarajal honours Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria around 2 February with a rosary, Mass, procession and musical gatherings in the square. Tiscamanita celebrates San Marcos on 25 April; Tarajalejo dedicates May to the Sagrado Corazón de María, with a pilgrimage and maritime procession; and Tesejerague maintains its San José celebration.

Other celebrations and Majorero traditions

The municipal calendar extends across seven settlements and includes carnival, neighbourhood festivals, music, Canarian wrestling and local gatherings. The Town Council, parishes, associations and residents participate in organising them. The apañadas, in which shepherds and Majorero dogs bring goats together in a traditional enclosure, also express the island's livestock culture and connection to the land.
