Local festivals in Mungia

The San Pedro festivities are usually celebrated for more than a week between late June and early July, around 29 June. The opening speech and the atmosphere of the txosnas begin a programme of street parades, bilbainada songs, bertsolari performances, music, Basque rural sports and family activities in Foruen plaza, Andra Mari, Torrebillela park and other central venues.

San Antontxu and rural culture

San Antontxu usually takes place over several days around 18 January and centres on an agricultural and livestock fair extending from the fairground to Foruen plaza. Livestock, machinery, tools, trees and farmhouse produce appear alongside txakoli tasting, black pudding and chorizo competitions and pelota matches. The Town Council, BBK, local associations and producers organise and sustain the event.

Other celebrations in the neighbourhoods

Laukariz celebrates Santiago over a weekend around 25 July. The opening rocket, Basque rural sports, tortilla competition, communal meal and romería bring neighbourhood families together. Lau Haritz Kultur Elkartea and the festival committee organise the gathering with municipal support, while other associations maintain celebrations and fairs across Mungia's neighbourhoods.
