Local festivals in Bermeo

The main Andra Mari and Santa Eufemia festivities are usually celebrated from 8 to 16 September. Andra Mari de Almike opens the cycle, and Arrantzale Day fills the streets with people wearing Bermeo's characteristic blue workwear. Regattas, Sukalki Eguna, Basque rural sports, music, theatre and neighbourhood events express the town's maritime and community identity.

Madalenak and the Izaro tradition

On 22 July, Bermeo celebrates Madalen Eguna. After Mass at Santa Eufemia Church, the procession sails to the island of Izaro, where the mayor throws a roof tile into the sea to symbolise the extent of Bermeo's territory. The route continues through Elantxobe and Mundaka with an aurresku, music and gatherings around the harbour.

Other celebrations: San Juan and San Roque

On the eve of San Juan, a large bonfire is lit in Goiko Plaza and, on 24 June, many residents walk to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe for the early Masses and pilgrimage. On 16 August, groups of friends and families gather in the Tala district around marmitako stew, games and Basque rural sports for San Roque.
