Local festivals in Azpeitia
The San Sebastián festivities are usually celebrated over two days. They begin on the evening of 19 January with the tamborrada, involving many companies and hundreds of residents. Events continue on 20 January, when the children's tamborrada brings school pupils into the streets and reinforces the intergenerational character of one of Azpeitia's most popular and participatory celebrations.
Carnival and San Ignacio
Carnival usually begins with the elegant txikiteo on Sunday, heralded by the Caldereros, and continues with costumes and sokamuturra. The San Ignacio festivities, from 30 July to 2 August, combine the opening rocket, a communal meal, music, fireworks, children's activities and gatherings in the streets and squares of the town centre.
Other celebrations: Santo Tomás and neighbourhood festivities
On 21 December, Santo Tomás connects the square and market with rural life, farmhouse produce, music and community gathering. Loiola, Urrestilla, Nuarbe, Matxinbenta, Lasao, Oñatz and other neighbourhoods also maintain their own festivities, creating a calendar distributed throughout the municipality.
