Local festivals in Azkoitia

Andramaixek are usually celebrated for about five days around 15 August, the feast of the Assumption. The opening rocket on the 14th starts the street festivities with the Municipal Band, bell ringing and the tune Ondo Pasau Andramaixek. The council, accompanied by the band and txistu players, walks from the Town Hall to the parish church for high mass; pelota, music, sport, games and group meals complete gatherings organised by the Town Council and local organisations.

San Andrés fair

On 30 November, the San Andrés fair and festival brings the town into the streets for food stalls, a market, music and Basque rural sports. Its documented origin goes back to 1752, when the council chose San Andrés day for the annual fair. Schools, producers, associations, sportspeople and the Town Council take part in this winter event.

Other events: Holy Week and neighbourhood festivities

Holy Week preserves processions documented since the sixteenth century: images brought from churches and chapels accompany the Holy Burial amid incense, music, armatus, penitents and people carrying candles. Neighbourhoods including Floreaga, Izarraitz-Madariaga, Elosua, Aizpurutxo and San Martín also hold pilgrimages and patronal festivities at different times of year with committees, parishes and residents.
