Local festivals in Zuia

Zuia's festival calendar is shared between Murgia and the villages across the valley. Murgia's San Miguel festivities are the main celebration in the municipal capital, while each settlement retains its own events organised by festival committees, administrative boards, associations and residents with Town Council support.

Usual tradition

Murgia's San Miguel festivities are held around 29 September over several days. The 2025 municipal programme, used only as historical context, documents four days of a launch rocket, open-air dances, trikitixa music, a communal meal, rural sport, games, music and the burning of the hay bale in Murgia's streets, pelota court and txoko.

Programme for 2026

In Bitoriano, the Festival Committee and Town Council published the 2026 programme for 15, 22, 23 and 24 May. It included a launch rocket, Mass and pintxos at the Txoko, a communal dinner, circus workshops, a black-pudding tasting, fideuà competition, mus card tournament, open-air dance and a closing show at the pelota court.

Local public holiday in 2026

The Provincial Council of Álava declares 29 September, San Miguel, Zuia's local non-working holiday for 2026. This day is distinct from the full duration of the San Miguel festivities and from the individual festivals of the other villages.

Other cultural events

The Town Council also scheduled a shared Zuia festival day in Bitoriano on 13 June 2026, with activities, music and shows bringing together residents from the valley's different villages, alongside the sporting and cultural calendar connected with the Gorbeia area.
