Local festivals in Oyón-Oion

Oyón-Oion honours its patron saints, San Vicente and San Anastasio, with a two-day festival held in the streets, parish church and squares of the main town. The municipal calendar also includes San Prudencio, San Juan and the Acción de Gracias festivities among its usual dates.

Usual celebration

The patronal festivities take place on 21 and 22 January. Their distinctive traditions include the Revolcón del Katxi outside the church and Town Hall, the eve bonfire, the pre-dawn Aurora de los Patronos, Mass and procession, the patron saints' dance, giants and big-head figures and the sharing of chorizo rolls. The Town Council, cultural and musical groups and local residents sustain this two-day celebration.

Programme for 2026

The January 2026 municipal programme retained the official reception, Revolcón del Katxi, vespers, bonfire, open-air dance and fire bull on the 21st. On the 22nd it brought together the Aurora, a street wake-up parade with giants and big-head figures, Mass and procession, the patron saints' dance, the communal tasting and cultural and sporting activities.

Local public holiday in 2026

The Provincial Council of Álava designates 22 January as Oyón-Oion's local non-working holiday in 2026. This holiday coincides with the main day but neither replaces nor extends the two-day festival programme.

Other events

The municipal festival listing also places San Prudencio on 27 and 28 April, San Juan on 23 June and the Acción de Gracias festivities in August, alongside celebrations connected with wine and Rioja Alavesa.
