Local festivals in Artà
The Sant Salvador festivities are usually celebrated over nine days between late July and 7 August. The opening in Plaça de l'Ajuntament brings together the dance of the capgrossos, pipers from the municipal music school and the launch of the coet boiet; the streets and squares then host the proclamation, open-air dances, cultural events and gatherings organised by the festival committee with Town Council support.
Sant Pere in Colònia de Sant Pere
Between late June and early July, Colònia de Sant Pere holds several days of festivities for its patron saint. The harbour and seafront host the first dance of the Pere and Clara big-head figures, parades with the Xeremiers d'Artà, music, a sardine barbecue and a maritime procession, bringing residents, associations and the Town Council together around seafaring tradition.
Other celebrations: Sant Antoni
Around 17 January, the usual Sant Antoni tradition brings bonfires, a cavalcade and blessings of animals and decorated carts to both Artà and Colònia de Sant Pere. The saint's committee, horse owners and the Town Council maintain a celebration that fills squares and streets before concluding with solemn mass and a community gathering.
