Local festivals in Laviana
The Nuestra Señora del Otero festivities are usually celebrated over several days around 15 August in Pola de Laviana. The image is carried in procession from the Otero sanctuary down to the town church, while the streets, squares and La Chalana meadow host music, community gatherings and events organised by the Town Council, parish, local clubs, associations and residents.
Nalón Folk Descent
In the second half of August, local clubs parade in costume with themed craft they have built themselves and then travel roughly one and a half kilometres along the River Nalón between Puente d'Arcu and La Chalana. The song Chalaneru opens this humorous river descent, founded in 1968 and recognised as a national tourist festival, bringing together teams, families and spectators on both banks.
Other events: La Pontona and pilgrimages
On 12 October, La Pontona combines festivities with a livestock fair in Pola de Laviana, a gathering revived in 1962 and rooted among farmers, traders and residents. The calendar also includes pilgrimages and parish feasts such as El Obellayo in Ribota, Les Campes, Cortina, El Carmen in Entralgo, San Pedro in Tiraña and San Roque in Tolivia.
