Semana Grande, Begoña and local festivals in Gijón

Gijón/Xixón’s Semana Grande culminates around 15 August, the feast of Our Lady of Begoña, and concentrates concerts and activities over several days at venues such as the Poniente esplanade.

The Night of the Fireworks, viewed from San Lorenzo Bay, and the Danza Prima are among the most recognisable traditions at the close of the festivities. The programme also includes free music, orchestras, street art, folklore and activities for children.

The Gijón festive calendar also includes the Antroxu, with the brass band parade and the burial of the sardine, and the Night of San Xuan on Poniente beach. These celebrations have their own dates and programmes; They do not extend the duration of the Big Week nor convert all its days into work breaks.
