Local festivals in Carreño

The Santísimo Cristo de Candás festivities are usually celebrated over several days around 14 September. The alborada dawn music opens the main day and the procession crosses the town in honour of the senior patron of Asturias's fishermen's guilds. Plaza de La Baragaña, the harbour, Parque de Les Conserveres and Teatro Prendes host music, children's activities, sport and evening dances involving local associations and residents.

Sardine Festival

On 1 August, the feast of San Félix, Candás celebrates the Sardine Festival. Grills and local restaurants prepare sardines at a food gathering closely linked to the harbour and the town's fishing heritage. The event brings residents and visitors together by the coast and is recognised as a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest.

Other celebrations and maritime tradition

The council area's festive calendar also extends across its parishes and settlements, where neighbourhood committees organise pilgrimages, patronal festivals, music and community meals. In Candás, the harbour, former canning factories and fishermen's guilds keep a maritime identity at the heart of local celebrations.
