Local festivals in Marchena

Holy Week is Marchena's most distinctive usual celebration. Its services and processions last from Lent until Holy Saturday, with seven brotherhoods and historic religious images moving through churches, squares and streets in the monumental centre. The Sentencia de Cristo in Plaza de Arriba, the Sermón de las Siete Palabras and the old saeta styles known as Cuartas, Quintas and Moleras distinguish this tradition, recognised as a Festival of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia.

The fair and patronal festivals

Marchena's fair is usually celebrated in late August and lasts almost a week. The Real fairground and its casetas bring residents and visitors together for horse parades, flamenco dress, music and shared festivities. The Town Council organises the site and the municipal caseta. The patronal calendar also honours San Sebastián on 20 January and the Virgen del Rosario on 7 October, with services and processions through the town centre.

Other celebrations and flamenco culture

Other events include Carnival, Corpus Christi, pilgrimages and services organised by the brotherhoods. The Fiesta de la Guitarra, usually held in July, connects the cultural programme with Marchena's flamenco tradition and the legacy of its performers.
