Local festivals in Las Cabezas de San Juan
The San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza pilgrimage is usually celebrated over two days in mid-May. Thousands of people accompany the images on foot, on horseback and in decorated carts and carriages to the Sacramento pine woods, where pilgrims, the brotherhood and families spend the night before returning to the town.
Other celebrations: September Fair and May Crosses
The September Fair, regarded as the oldest in the Lower Guadalquivir district, usually occupies the second or third week of the month at the fairground. Casetas, music, horse riding, carriage-driving competitions and other gatherings make it a meeting place for residents and visitors. In May, associations and individuals build crosses and decorate balconies, streets and squares with flowers.
Re-enactment of Riego's uprising
Plaza de los Mártires and other town-centre locations host the annual re-enactment of Rafael del Riego's 1820 uprising in Las Cabezas in support of the Spanish Constitution of 1812. Residents and associations participate in period dress through parades, workshops, exhibitions, themed markets and performances that connect local history with the municipality's cultural life.
