Local festivals in El Viso del Alcor

The patronal festivities in honour of Santa María del Alcor Coronada are usually celebrated from late August and over several days in September. The Brotherhood, Town Council and residents participate in open-air dances, an opening speech, novena, offerings, rosary, community celebrations and religious events.

Patron saint's day and pilgrimage

On 12 September, the religious service includes the presentation of the municipal staff of office to the Patroness and an offering of local produce. Communal potaje meals precede the evening procession through decorated streets. On the third Sunday of the month, the pilgrimage leaves for the Alcaudete chapel after the pilgrims' mass and returns to the town at dusk.

Other celebrations

The festival cycle also includes Holy Week, the Santa Cruz festivities in early May, Corpus Christi and the Hogueritas on the eve of the Immaculate Conception. Brotherhoods, associations and residents sustain these celebrations through processions, decorated crosses, lights, bonfires and gatherings in streets and squares.
