Local festivals in Manilva

The Santa Ana patronal festivities are usually celebrated over several days around 26 July in Manilva itself. Mass at Santa Ana church, float parades, music, dancing and gatherings in Plaza del Pozo del Rey bring residents and visitors together. The Town Council and local groups take part in organising the events.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel and maritime tradition

El Castillo de la Duquesa and San Luis de Sabinillas honour Our Lady of Mount Carmel around 16 July. After seafarers' Masses, the images are carried in procession to the beach and taken out to sea accompanied by fishing and leisure boats. Fishers, brotherhoods, residents and crews turn the day into a deeply rooted maritime pilgrimage.

The grape harvest and other celebrations

The grape harvest festival usually lasts throughout the first weekend in September and coincides with the end of the harvest. Traditional grape treading extracts the first must, which is offered for tasting, while Plaza de la Vendimia becomes the centre of the community gathering. Sabinillas celebrates San Luis on 25 August, and the Virgen de Fátima pilgrimage travels to the San Adolfo chapel beside Baños de la Hedionda every 27 June.
