Local festivals in Alhaurín el Grande
The May Fair is usually celebrated over several days and combines a daytime fair in the streets of the historic centre with an evening fair at the fairground, featuring casetas, rides and music. Its origins lie in the annual fair granted to the town by Queen Isabella II through a Royal Order of 1853.
Holy Week and fiestas de gloria
Holy Week in Alhaurín el Grande is distinguished by live performances of the Passion and processions organised by the Hermandad de Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno, known as the Moraos, and the Cofradía de la Santa Vera Cruz, the Verdes. In May, Día de la Cruz adds services, bands, processions and balconies decorated with crosses and green cloths.
Other celebrations: Día de Jesús and Virgen de Gracia
Día de Jesús is held after Corpus Christi with observances and processions in honour of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno and balconies decorated with purple cloths. In August, the image of Nuestra Señora de Gracia visits different neighbourhoods before its procession, traditionally carried by young residents reaching adulthood.
