Local festivals in Mengíbar

The Fair and Festivities in honour of Santa María Magdalena are usually celebrated over several days around 22 July, the feast of the town's patron and perpetual mayoress. Plaza de la Constitución and other venues host the Iliturgi Awards gala, fireworks, music, children's and sporting activities, the Tribute to Absent Residents and the procession through the streets.

Santa María Magdalena pilgrimage

On the second weekend of May, the image travels from San Pedro Apóstol parish church to her chapel on the edge of the municipality, near the Iliturgi site. The pilgrimage usually lasts three days and combines floral offerings, an opening speech, mass, procession and a community gathering at the grounds, with the Town Council, parish community and many residents taking part.

Other celebrations: May Crosses

Around 3 May, streets, squares and courtyards are decorated with handmade crosses, flowers and traditional objects. Residents, associations and community groups prepare the displays and preserve a custom linked to old devotional niches, alongside Holy Week and other cultural events in the local calendar.
