Local festivals in Jódar
The usual celebration of the Royal September Fair runs from 1 to 5 September and originated in a royal decree of 1837. El Caballo fairground hosts the proclamation, marquees, rides, concerts, bull-related events, Andalusian dress and open-air dances. During August, the Pórtico de Feria adds film, sport, the Folk Music Gathering and the Flamenco Arts Festival, involving the Town Council, performers, peñas, associations and residents.
Cristo de la Misericordia
The town's patron is honoured during the May Crosses on 2 and 3 May and the patronal festivities on 13 and 14 September. Monumental arches and flower altars, brotherhood marquees, sevillanas and fireworks accompany the procession, when residents, brotherhoods and confraternities make offerings of flowers, wheat and pyrotechnics. The patronal tradition dates back to the fourteenth century, and the Municipal Council has formally dedicated the September days since 1889.
