Local festivals and culture of Jaén
The Feria y Fiestas de San Lucas is Jaén's main autumn celebration and has its central date on 18 October. It lasts for several days and is centred on the Recinto Ferial Alcalde Alfonso Sánchez Herrera.
The opening address and parade, led by the figure of the Lagarto de la Magdalena, begin a programme of casetas, horse parades, concerts, flamenco, zarzuela, theatre, children's activities, bands, bobbin lace and equestrian displays. Participants include the Municipal Culture Board, caseta operators, academies, bands, performers, associations, families, residents and visitors.
Another local tradition is the Lumbres y Fiestas de San Antón de Jaén, with bonfires in different neighbourhoods and cultural activities around the January feast day.
