Local festivals in Maracena

Maracena holds its August patronal festivities in honour of San Joaquín, with the fairground and Plaza de la Constitución serving as the main gathering places.

Usual celebration

The festivities are usually held around 16 August and last four days. They bring together illuminations, an opening speech, concerts, rides, a daytime fair, water events, Horse Day, youth events and religious services. The Town Council organises the programme with the parish, the Municipal Band, associations, performers and neighbourhood groups.

Programme for 2026

The edition ran from 13 to 16 August. Children's Day, the opening speech by María Jesús Espigares Martín, Mojinos Escozíos, No me pises que llevo chanclas and an inclusive drone display opened the festivities. The programme added Cómplices, Miguel Campello, Sergio Contreras, the daytime fair, a water park and pool party, Grand Prix, a senior citizens' dinner, classic cars and motorcycles and youth events. The triduum occupied 13, 14 and 15 August; a solemn Mass and San Joaquín's procession with the Municipal Band closed the festival on the 16th.

Local public holidays in 2026

The BOJA declares Friday 27 March and Friday 14 August to be local public holidays. The latter falls during the patronal festivities, but only that date — not all four days of the programme — is a paid, non-recoverable holiday.

Other events

The festival calendar combines music, sport and intergenerational gatherings at the Ciudad Deportiva, Municipal Pool, Anfiteatro and Plaza de la Constitución, with quiet periods and a self-regulation room for autistic people.
