Local festivals in Rute

The Virgen del Carmen patronal festivities are usually celebrated over several weeks in July and August, culminating on 15 August. The sanctuary, Santa Catalina parish church, Paseo-Parque and the streets host songs by Hermanos de la Aurora, the image's transfer, a novena, opening speech, religious service, procession, music and fireworks. The Royal Archbrotherhood, Town Council, Municipal Band, choir, brotherhoods and residents take part in a tradition documented since the early 17th century.

Usual celebration of Virgen de la Cabeza

The María Santísima de la Cabeza festival usually lasts several days in May, with its main day on the second Sunday of the month. The image travels through its neighbourhood in an urban pilgrimage along Calle Cortijuelos and later continues in procession through the town, accompanied by choirs, brotherhood members, families and visitors. The brotherhood and Town Council organise religious services, cultural events, a floral offering and community gatherings.

Other celebrations: May Crosses

During the first days of May, the May Crosses decorate streets and homes with flowers, plants, bedspreads and traditional objects. Vera Cruz Brotherhood maintains several days of religious and cultural events, the Juegos Florales poetry gathering and the procession of the Holy Cross accompanied by Virgen de la Sangre, with the participation of young people, families, poets, musicians and residents.
