Local festivals in Ubrique

The patronal festivities honouring Nuestra Señora de los Remedios are usually celebrated around 8 September, before the local fair. The following Sunday is Día del Voto, when the town renews the vow made to its patron saint in 1855 with a solemn service and a procession through the historic streets to the Capuchin Convent.

Crujía de Gamones

Around 3 May, the May Cross celebrations take a form unique to Ubrique: associations, neighbourhood groups and residents light bonfires, decorate streets and squares with flowers and strike fire-heated asphodel stalks against the ground so that they burst. Music, gatherings around the fires and routes through the town centre make this oral tradition one of the municipality's most distinctive cultural expressions.

Other celebrations: carnival and fair

Carnival brings together singing groups, street parades, costumes and the Entierro de la Patacabra. Neighbourhood associations and local groups also organise food gatherings known as the Tortillá, Jamoná, Chicharroná and Chorizá, where the first carnival songs are performed. In September, the fair continues the communal celebrations at the fairground with casetas, music and shared activities.
