Festivals in Chipiona

Discover the main festivals and traditions of Chipiona, between the Regla sanctuary, the Atlantic and the Muscat vineyards.

Local festivals in Chipiona

The Nuestra Señora de Regla patronal festivities are usually celebrated over several days and culminate on 8 September. The procession leaves the sanctuary and passes through the surrounding area, while a salt carpet, illuminations, music and fireworks by the beach accompany a devotion documented in Chipiona since the early seventeenth century.

Chipiona Carnival

Carnival has documented nineteenth-century roots and was revived in 1984. Performing groups, carnival clubs, costumes and food events occupy several weeks, leading to a Gran Cabalgata whose floats and groups fill the streets and form one of the municipality’s principal popular occasions.

Other celebrations: pilgrimages and local culture

The Nuestra Señora de Regla del Pinar pilgrimage links the sanctuary with the Pinar chapel through events organised by the brotherhood and the municipal Festivals Department. The Muscat wine fair and other cultural occasions also reflect Chipiona’s winemaking, seafaring and community traditions.
