Local festivals in Barbate

The Feria y Fiestas del Carmen is usually celebrated over several days and culminates on 16 July, the feast day of Barbate's patron saint. The fairground opposite the port of La Albufera hosts the ceremonial lighting, marquees, music, dancing and community gatherings.

Maritime procession of the Virgen del Carmen

The image leaves San Paulino church for the fishing harbour, where the religious service and flower offering take place. In the evening it boards a fishing vessel for the maritime procession and blessing of the waters; local residents and the seafaring community participate alongside other boats.

Other celebrations: seafaring and popular traditions

The Gran Regata de Botes rowing race and the cucaña form part of the fair's tradition. Carnival brings chirigotas, comparsas, choirs and street parades to the town, while Holy Week, the Virgen de Fátima pilgrimage, San Juan night and the Gran Sardinada complete the municipality's festive calendar.
