El Pardo Royal Site Festival in honour of the Virgen del Rosario
Madrid's historic El Pardo neighbourhood celebrates its festival in honour of the Virgen del Rosario in late August and early September. Its programme brings together a patronal ceremony, music, sport, games and food, centred on the fairground in Parque de la Mar Océana.
Usual dates
The festival normally begins on the final weekend of August and continues through the first week of September. Exact dates depend on each edition.
See the 2026 El Pardo festival programme.
Where it takes place
The fairground is set up in Parque de la Mar Océana. Other events reach Iglesia Virgen del Carmen, Plaza de El Pardo, Centro Sociocultural Alfonso XII, Calle de Manuel Alonso, Parque del Concejal Miguel Martín Vela, district sports facilities and the bank of the Manzanares.
The Virgen del Rosario
Solemn Mass and the procession of the Virgen del Rosario provide the patronal heart of the festival. The image travels through El Pardo with musical accompaniment, while the civic programme adds an opening address and district-supported activities involving local organisations.
Events and traditions
- Opening address, tribute to older residents and a shared opening snack.
- Mass and the procession of the Virgen del Rosario through the neighbourhood.
- Orchestras, DJ sets, flamenco, a street parade and cultural competitions.
- Board and traditional games, children's events and sports competitions.
- A concert by the Royal Guard Music Unit, venison stew tasting and closing fireworks.
A neighbourhood festival open to all
The programme combines activities for older people, families, children, sports participants and general audiences. Venues across El Pardo connect the festival with the neighbourhood's cultural, religious, natural and community spaces.
