2026 Las Mondas programme in Talavera de la Reina

Las Mondas 2026 took place from 1 to 12 April. The Gran Cortejo left Plaza del Pan at 17:00 on Saturday 11 and ended at the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Prado with the traditional exchange of ceremonial staffs.

Wednesday 1 April 2026

  • 12:00: opening of the selected works from the sixth Las Mondas Drawing Competition and the display of school-made staffs from 2024 and 2025, in the foyer of Centro Cultural Rafael Morales. Open until 15 April, 10:00-14:00 and 17:00-21:00, except during Holy Week.
  • 12:15: opening of the regional dress exhibition “Antiguas Tierras de Talavera I”, Sala Marisa Esteban in the same centre; same dates and opening hours.

Sunday 5 April 2026

  • 11:15: Pregón del Leño Florido in Plaza del Pan, reading of the list of winners of the 24th Premios Ciudad de Talavera, burning of Judas, wine, pastries and local and regional folklore.
  • 12:00: proclamation in San Antonio-Puente Romano (Parque El Vivero), Puerta de Cuartos (Paseo Padre Juan de Mariana), Las Moreras (Calle Pablo Neruda), Puerta de Zamora (the square of that name) and Fray Hernando (Parque Enrique Tierno Galván).
  • 12:45: proclamation in Paredón de los Frailes (Calle Paredón), Patrocinio (Plaza Nueva), La Alameda (Fuente de las Ranas) and El Faro (Explanada de los Santos Mártires).
  • 13:00: proclamation in El Carmen, Plaza de El Carmen.
  • 13:30: proclamation in Santa María (Plaza Santa Ana), Nuestra Señora del Prado (Calle Baladiel), La Solana (opposite Polideportivo 1.º de Mayo) and La Milagrosa 2011 (Plaza Eusebio Rubalcaba).

Tuesday 7 April 2026

  • 18:00: children's workshop “Los pequeños en Mondas, tradición entre manos”, Biblioteca del Alfar, for children aged 4-6 accompanied by an adult, with registration.
  • 18:00: talk “Patrimonio, historia y actualidad de la cerámica”, at the second Tourism Fair, beside El Corte Inglés.
  • 20:00: presentation of the 38th Las Mondas facsimile, “El Casar del Ciego en las Mondas”, by Luis Alfonso Gómez Mayoral, Centro Cultural El Salvador.

Wednesday 8 April 2026

  • 10:30: “Cerámica en la calle” workshop, Tourism Fair.
  • 16:00: “Pintando un azulejo” workshop, Tourism Fair.
  • 17:30: children's hanging picture-frame workshop themed around Las Mondas, Biblioteca del Alfar, for ages 7-12, with registration.
  • 20:00: 25th Asociación de Vecinos San Jerónimo heritage conservation awards, Sala Carmelo Castilla, Centro Cultural Rafael Morales.

Thursday 9 April 2026

  • 10:30: participatory pottery-wheel and raku workshop, Tourism Fair.
  • 18:00: talk “Entre tradición y contemporaneidad”, Tourism Fair.
  • 20:00: 23rd Premios Ciudad de Talavera, with Banda de Música de Talavera, Teatro Palenque.
  • 9-12 April: seafood fair in Parque de la Alameda.

Friday 10 April 2026

  • 10:00: La Mondilla, a children's procession with more than 2,000 pupils from 33 schools. It left Calle Marqués de Mirasol, followed Alfares, Prado and Arcos del Ferial, and ended at the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Prado with an exchange of staffs and school folklore display.
  • 10:30: participatory pottery-wheel and raku workshop, Tourism Fair.
  • 17:00: traditional-motif notebook workshop and short Las Mondas talk, BDU Federico García Lorca, for ages 7-14.
  • 17:30: children's Bastón de Mondas craft workshop, Biblioteca Pública José Hierro, for ages 7-12 with registration; talk “La historia de Talavera a través de su cerámica” and photo booth at the Tourism Fair.
  • 18:30: traditional-motif notebook workshop and short Las Mondas talk, BDU Santa María; Benjamín Nava performance at the Tourism Fair.
  • 19:00: local and regional folklore in Plaza del Pan, featuring La Candelaria and Asociación Cultural Folklórica de Talavera la Nueva; guided Las Mondas tour, with registration through the Tourist Office.
  • 20:30: Las Mondas proclamation by José María Gómez Gómez from the City Hall balcony in Plaza del Pan, with Banda de Música de Talavera. Afterwards, fire bulls proceeded to Parque de la Alameda, followed by a pyromusical show.
  • Immediately afterwards: migas, wine and bonfire in Plaza de la Comarca.
  • 22:00: continuation of the folklore display at Caseta Municipal, featuring Emilio Morán, Atalayuela de Velada and Grupo Pizarro.

Saturday 11 April 2026

  • 11:00: regional meeting of mayors from the ancient lands of Talavera, City Council chamber.
  • 11:30: guided Las Mondas tour, with registration through the Tourist Office.
  • 12:00: 11th Las Mondas Giants and Big-heads Gathering from Plaza del Pan, crossing the town centre and reaching the Basilica del Prado at about 14:00 with Los Trotamúsicos; live radio also began at the Tourism Fair.
  • 12:30-14:00: children's ceramics workshop, Tourism Fair.
  • 17:00: opening rocket and departure of the Gran Cortejo de Mondas from Plaza del Pan. Route: Plaza Padre Juan de Mariana, Palenque, Corredera del Cristo, Luis Jiménez, Portiña de San Miguel, Marqués de Mirasol, Alfares, Prado, Avenida de Extremadura and the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Prado. The exchange of ceremonial staffs followed inside the basilica.
  • 18:00: photo booth, Tourism Fair.
  • 19:30: Oídos Sordos performance, Tourism Fair.
  • 20:30: 11th National Folklore Display at Caseta Municipal, featuring Centro Asturiano de Madrid, Bohonal de Ibor, Casa de Aragón and Rosalía de Castro.
  • 23:00: Mondas Festival with Alba Dreid, Shega and Alex Deejay, Plaza de la Reina.
  • 11:00-22:00: craft market, Paseo de los Arqueros.

Sunday 12 April 2026

  • 11:00-22:00: craft market, Paseo de los Arqueros.
  • 12:00: children's running of inflatable bulls from Calle Trinidad to Plaza del Pan, with a bull-leaping contest; guided tour of murals and the Ceramics Museum, with registration through the Tourist Office.
  • 19:30: GOOL by Yllana, Teatro Palenque.

Food and continuing activities

The programme featured the “Azahar de Mondas” cake at Pastelería Goxua, the Bastón de Mondas cake at El Corte Inglés and Alfareritas biscuits at El Horno de Casilda. The second Tourism Fair opened on 10 and 11 April from 11:00 to 21:30 beside El Corte Inglés.
