Local festivals in Utiel

The fair and festivities in honour of the Virgen del Remedio are usually celebrated for about ten days in early September. Paseo de la Alameda, the fairground, Plaza del Ayuntamiento and the streets host the opening ceremony, music, competitions, exhibitions, food, cultural events and community gatherings. The Town Council, Real Cofradía, parish, Unión Musical Utielana, stewards, associations, producers and residents take part in a fair established in 1857.

Pilgrimage and reception of the patron

On 6 September, a pilgrimage carries the image from the mountain sanctuary to Utiel, a tradition documented since 1651. Pilgrims accompany the route and gather at La Mesilla for the reception before continuing to the Assumption church. On 8 September, solemn mass, the offering and the street procession take place; the image remains in the town until its return to the sanctuary on the last Sunday in October.

Other celebrations

The local calendar also includes Holy Week, Carnival, San Isidro and festivities in the outlying villages, as well as gatherings linked to the area's wine and food traditions. Brotherhoods, parishes, committees, wineries, farmers and cultural groups organise processions, music, fairs, tastings and community activities in the town centre and rural settlements.
