Festivals in Tavernes Blanques

Discover the festivals of Tavernes Blanques, shaped by the transfer of the Virgen de los Desamparados, the San Roque celebration and Valencian fireworks.

Local festivals in Tavernes Blanques

The Virgen de los Desamparados and San Roque patronal festivities are usually celebrated over several days around the third Sunday in August. Carraixet chapel, Santísima Trinidad parish church and the town's streets connect the main religious and community events.

La passà, San Roque and la tornà

On the Saturday before the third Sunday in August, la passà carries the image of the Virgen de los Desamparados from Carraixet chapel to the parish church. Sunday is dedicated to the Virgin and the following Tuesday to San Roque, with mascletaes, a community supper and the traditional San Roque bread served with local sausages. On Wednesday, la tornà returns the image to the chapel amid firecrackers and fireworks.

Other celebrations: community participation and local tradition

The Town Council, parish, festival organisations and residents take part in a sequence combining processions, fireworks, music and shared meals. The route between the town centre and the chapel maintains Tavernes Blanques' connection with the Carraixet ravine and the festival customs of Horta Nord.
