Local festivals in Chiva
The Torico de la Cuerda festival is usually celebrated during the second half of August. Its central days are 17, 18 and 19, with runs through the streets, and the cycle ends around the 25th with a special outing. The local form uses a padded leather band around the horns and two ropes guided by runners, who accompany the animal along the urban route.
Organisation and festival spaces
The El Torico bull-running association, founded in 1965, works with the Town Council, clavarios, local clubs, volunteers and municipal services to preserve the celebration. The central streets and the area around the Torico Interpretation Centre host a tradition documented since 1648 and recognised as a festival of tourist interest in the Valencian Community.
Other celebrations: patronal festivities
The August celebrations connect with the patronal festivities in honour of the Virgen del Castillo and the feast of San Roque. Religious observances, dolçaina and tabal music, street parades and gatherings of local clubs accompany the bull-running events over several days and strengthen the participation of residents and local associations.
