Local festivals in Alaquàs
The Festes Majors are usually celebrated from late August to mid-September. The opening speech and correfoc begin a cycle in the town streets, sustained by festival stewards, confraternities, cultural associations, comparsas and other local groups.
Mare de Déu de l’Olivar and Cristo de la Buena Muerte
The central days are 8 September, dedicated to the Mare de Déu de l’Olivar, and the 9th, devoted to Cristo de la Buena Muerte. Masses and processions culminate in the Cant de la Carxofa: a child dressed as an angel sings a motet from an elevated artichoke-shaped structure, accompanied by an orchestra and treble choir.
Other celebrations: fireworks and festival participation
The Cordà is another defining feature of the festivities, together with cordàs dedicated to Sant Miquel and Cristo de la Buena Muerte, the correfoc and other firework events held in controlled enclosures. The Moros i Cristians Perolers, festival steward groups and confraternities complete the municipality’s festive participation.
