Local festivals in Sax

The Moors and Christians festival in honour of San Blas is usually celebrated over five days, from 1 to 5 February. Companies from both sides, captains, bands and residents take part in entrances, parades, musket fire, embassies and religious events through the streets, company headquarters and San Blas chapel. The solemn vow to the patron dates from 1627, and the festival has kept its present duration since 1942.

The Cabildo and festival preparations

Every 26 December, the Cabildo brings together in an open assembly all residents who wish to help prepare the San Blas festivities. It is summoned by the ringing of a bell and preserves the form of an open council with medieval origins. The San Blas Mayordomía and the festival companies organise much of the town's festive life throughout the year.

Other celebrations: Santa Eulalia and patronal festivals

On the weekend after 12 February, Colonia de Santa Eulalia honours the town's former patron with concerts, contests and food gatherings. The local calendar also includes the San Pancracio pilgrimage, Holy Week, the Virgen de la Asunción around 15 August and the Virgen de los Frutos, with parishes, brotherhoods, associations and residents taking part.
