Local festivals in Aspe

The Virgen de las Nieves festival, dedicated to the patron saint shared with Hondón de las Nieves since the municipalities separated in 1839, is usually celebrated in Aspe in even-numbered years from 3 August. The image arrives on pilgrimage, remains at Nuestra Señora del Socorro parish church and later returns to its shrine in Hondón.

Moros y Cristianos

Moros y Cristianos has formed part of the main festivities since 1978 and is held each year around the second week of August. The comparsas gather in their cuartelillos and stage the Moorish and Christian entrances, the alardo, embassy and retreta; the winter media fiesta brings the groups together again.

Other celebrations: La Jira or El Último Jueves

La Jira is celebrated on the Thursday before Ash Wednesday. Local residents participate in groups known as jiras, parading in matching costumes and performing songs with original lyrics before spending the day at country houses. The Calle La Cruz festival, with decorative arches, traditional games and street processions, completes the local traditions at the beginning of May.
