Local festivals in Yecla

Yecla has two particularly representative festive cycles: the December Fiestas de la Virgen del Castillo and May's Fiestas de San Isidro, organised with the involvement of the Town Council, the Asociación de Mayordomos, the Federación de Peñas, festival squads, associations and residents.

Usual celebration

The patronal festival honours the Immaculate Conception. Its principal events take place between the Santuario del Castillo, the Basílica de la Purísima and the town-centre streets: the Beneplácito opens the cycle, the Alborada and Bajada accompany the Virgin to the sound of arquebus fire, the religious service and procession are held on 8 December, and the Subida returns the image to the sanctuary. The programme lasts several days in December and brings together mayordomos, pages, squads and the arquebusiers known locally as «tiraores».

Programme for 2026

The Fiestas de San Isidro ran from 8 to 17 May 2026. The municipal programme placed concerts and the national folk showcase at the Los Ventorrillos venue, the tribute to the peñas on 14 May and the float parade on Saturday 16 May, with peñas and refreshment stands along the urban route.

Local public holidays in 2026

The BORM employment calendar declares 14 September and 9 December 2026 as Yecla's local public holidays. They are paid, non-recoverable non-working days within the municipality and do not represent the full duration of the September or December festivities.

Other events

The Romería de San Marcos brought together pilgrims at the Cerrico de la Fuente on 26 April 2026 for the gachasmigas competition, a country mass, May songs, traditional dancing and a paella festival, organised by the Town Council and Grupo Folclórico Arabí.
