Local festivals in Santomera

The patronal festivities honouring Nuestra Señora del Rosario are usually celebrated from the second half of September into early October. An opening address and firework signal begin a cycle of folklore, sport, food, music and religious observances; the Bando de la Huerta crosses the streets on the Saturday before 7 October, and the patron's procession brings together the parish, local clubs, associations and residents.

Moors and Christians

The Moors and Christians festivities began in 1979 and are recognised as being of Regional Tourist Interest. Their main days are usually celebrated at the start of summer around the Campamento Festero, with companies from both sides, open-air dances, communal events, cultural activities and a major parade along Avenida Juan Carlos I. The Junta Central, established in 1983, coordinates the participating festival groups.

Other celebrations: Holy Week

Holy Week has roots documented from the late seventeenth or early eighteenth century. Brotherhoods, bands and residents accompany religious images and processions through the town centre, maintaining a devotional and community tradition alongside the festivals held in La Matanza and El Siscar.
