Local festivals in Lorca

Lorca's festival calendar centres on the Virgen de las Huertas, the city's patron, the September Fair and Festivals, San Clemente and a Holy Week distinguished by its Biblical-Passion Parades.

Usual celebration

The Feria Chica is usually held from late August to 8 September around the sanctuary and Plaza del Rey Sabio. It lasts several days and brings together a novena, opening speech, floral offering, serenade, folklore and the procession of Santa María la Real de las Huertas. The Town Council, the Hermandad de la Virgen de las Huertas and neighbourhood and cultural groups organise the events.

Programme for 2026

The official 2026 edition runs from 30 August to 8 September. The novena takes place from 30 August to 7 September; the fair opens in Plaza del Rey Sabio from 4 to 8 September; Merche performs on the 5th; and 7 and 8 September bring the serenade, the International Folklore Festival, the principal services and the patron's procession.

Local public holidays in 2026

The BORM labour calendar declares Tuesday 8 September and Monday 23 November to be paid, non-recoverable local public holidays within the municipality. The first coincides with the Virgen de las Huertas and the second with San Clemente; they are two specific non-working days, not the full length of either celebration.

Other events

Holy Week in 2026 took place from 27 March to 5 April. Lorca's brotherhoods stage the Biblical-Passion Parades along Avenida Juan Carlos I, with horses, floats, embroidery and scenes from the Old and New Testaments.
